Joseph Weyland (bishop)

Joseph Weyland ( born March 13, 1826 in Hadamar, † January 11, 1894 in Fulda) was Bishop of Fulda.

After finishing high school in Weilburg in 1844, he studied at the Faculty of Catholic Theology at Giessen and completed his studies at the seminary Limburger. In Limburg Cathedral, he was ordained a priest in 1848 by the Bishop of Limburg Peter Josef Blum ( 1808-1884 ).

He was then chaplain in Oberursel, Rennerod and maximum / M. and from January 1852 chaplain at the cathedral in Frankfurt / M. After years in Lorch, he became pastor in 1862 and in 1863 Dean of Wiesbaden. 1882 he was appointed to the Pontifical House prelate by Pope Leo XIII ..

On 4 November 1887, the Fulda cathedral chapter elected him as successor to the Fulda Bishop Georg von Kopp, who was from 1887 to 1914 Prince-Bishop of Breslau. He received his episcopal consecration on January 25, 1888, the Archbishop of Freiburg im Breisgau Johann Christian Roos ( 1826-1894 ).

His grave is located in Fulda Cathedral.
