Josiah Abigail Patterson Campbell

Josiah Abigail Patterson Campbell ( born March 2, 1830 in Camden, Kershaw County, South Carolina; † January 10, 1917 in Jackson, Mississippi) was a prominent politician of the Confederate States of America.

Born in South Carolina Campbell later moved to Mississippi, where he belonged to the State Parliament 1851-1859. In 1861 he took part in the Secession Convention of the state. He also worked 1861-1862 in the provisional Konföderiertenkongress, where he was its president pro tempore. As the American Civil War broke out, he served in the rank of Colonel in the Confederate Army. After the war he was from 1891 to 1894 Supreme State judges ( Chief Justice ) of the Mississippi Supreme Court, which he had heard already from 1889. Campbell died in 1917.
