Josip Bozanić

Josip Cardinal Bosanić (born 20 March 1949 in Rijeka, SR Croatia, Yugoslavia ) is Archbishop of Zagreb.

Life

Josip Bosanić received a humanistic education at the Seminary of Pazin and then studied at the theological faculties of Rijeka and Zagreb Catholic theology and philosophy before he received the sacrament of Holy Orders in 1975. After four years as pastor he graduated in Rome in the years 1979-1985 postgraduate studies in dogmatics at the Pontifical Gregorian University and expert in canon law at the Pontifical Lateran University. From 1986 to 1989, he held leadership roles in the administration of the diocese of Krk from 1988 to 1997, he lectured Canon Law and dogmatics at the seminary of Rijeka.

On May 10, 1989 was appointed Coadjutor Bishop Josip Bosanić of Krk. He received his episcopal consecration on June 25, 1989 Cardinal Franjo Kuharić; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Josip Pavlišic and Bishop Karmelo Zazinovic. Following the resignation of Bishop Karmelo Zazinovic he was on November 14, 1989 Bishop of Krk. In 1996, he then received the appointment as administrator of the Archdiocese of Rijeka. A year later, Pope John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Zagreb. Bosanić heard since 21 October 2003 as a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Girolamo dei Croati ( degli Schiavoni ) ( Saint Jerome of the Croats ) to the College of Cardinals.

Bosanić was two periods long chairman of the Croatian Bishops' Conference. In October 2007, he was replaced by Marin Srakić.
