Jouko Grip

Jouko Grip ( born January 10, 1949 in Pälkäne ) is a Finnish cross-country skier and athlete from Pälkäne and with 12 gold medals, the most successful Finnish participants in Paralympic Games.

Grip had participated from 1980 to 2002 on all seven Paralympic Winter Games as a cross-country skier and won it a total of 15 medals ( 10 gold, 5 silver). He is also active as a middle-distance runner and javelin thrower, and has participated in these disciplines in the two Summer Paralympics in New York (1984) and Seoul ( 1988). He has won two gold medals. In addition, he is 10 times world champion.

Grip used his success to advertise for disabled sports in Finland. He is a trainer at the Sports Institute founded in 1985 Fair Räyskälän Leirikeskus working for disabled children and in a variety of organizations whose aim is to make life easier for people with disabilities.

He was awarded for his work by the Finnish Ministry of Education with the Pro Athlete Award 2005 2005. The following year, he was inducted into the newly formed "Hall of Fame" for the Paralympics on March 10, 2006, together with the skier Annemie Schneider and trainer Ulla Renvall by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

Grip suffered from polio, which his left hand was crippled.
