Jovel Music Hall

The Jovel Music Hall, also just called Jovel ( from the Masematte word for good), is a traditional club in Münster with a capacity of about 1,500 people.

It was founded in late 1979 by Steffi Stephan Jovel ( bassist with Udo Lindenberg ) in a former cinema between " Dondersring " and "Am pitcher ." Followed in 1987 - after the dilapidated cinema, together with the neighboring pub " New pitcher " had to be demolished - a move in the halls of the Germania Brewery. In Jovel numerous concerts and disco events were held, including Udo Lindenberg, BAP, The Fantastic Four, H -Blockx and Miles Davis.

Due to the transformation of the site of the Germania Brewery to a new lifestyle district the last event in the Jovel on the road Grevener took place on 4 June 2006. After Frank Diez and the band Revolution Steffi Stephan played together with friends, including Carl Carlton, Hannes Bauer, Inga Rumpf and Udo Lindenberg. With the demolition of non- listed buildings of the former Germania brewery, the Jovel was demolished in November 2006.

However, to organize the traditional Christmas and New Year's Eve Party 2006 yet, the Jovel received a four-week special permission by the city of Münster, between the 8th and December 31 at the harbor to rent a warehouse close to the main fire station II for this purpose and use. For 2007, gave the city of Münster such approval. A breakthrough in the nearly two-year search for a new location brought the bankruptcy of the dealership reefs in September 2008, the second oldest so far Opel dealers in Germany. In October 2008, Stephan signed a perpetual lease on the Grade II listed former car dealership from the 1930s, in which from now on the Jovel Music Hall be housed and aims to build on the old tradition. The new Jovel was opened on November 29, 2008 with a concert by Udo Lindenberg, Inga Rumpf, Julia Neigel, Steffi Stephan and the " panic orchestra". However, the long-term future depended extended period of the new, future owners of the property. Steffi Stephan was looking for investors to buy the former car dealership itself. In November 2012, Stephan was able to take the land and buildings in a bidding competition.

Since 2 November 2011, the nearly 50 issues of " Jovel News" that appeared between 1989 and 1993, included in the digital archive of the University and Regional Library Münster.
