Joyce Johnson

Joyce Johnson, born as Joyce Glassman, ( born September 27, 1935) is an American writer. She was from 1957 to 1958 the partner of Jack Kerouac.

Joyce Glassman had gone with Elise Cowen to school, who had an affair with the poet Allen Ginsberg and Ginsberg brought Joyce Glassman end of 1956, along with Kerouac, by arranging a blind date for her and Jack Kerouac. The two were together until 1958.

After the relationship end Joyce Johnson worked as an editor and wrote two novels. With 47 years she published her memoir Minor Characters that give an insider's view from the perspective of a young woman in the Beat Generation. The book shows especially the personality of Jack Kerouac, the difficult coped with the overnight -grown celebrity. Minor Characters in 1983 was awarded the National Book Critics Circle Award.
