Jozef Marko

Jozef Marko ( born May 25, 1923 in Topolčany; † 26 September 1996) was a Slovak and Czechoslovak football player and football coach.

Club career

Marko began playing football at TS Topoľčany, at 20 he joined the army club OAP Bratislava, with whom he was 1943/44, Slovakian champion. After the Second World War, Marko joined Spartak Trnava. After nine years in Trnava, of which the last two as player-coach, the midfielder returned to his former club back to Topoľčany, where he was also active as a player and coach as later with Spartak Považska Bystrica.

National

Between 1948 and 1949 graduated Marko nine caps for Czechoslovakia, the 1:3 against Bulgaria on 4 September 1949 in Prague a penalty he scored his only goal in the national jersey.

Coach

His football career ended Marko final in 1959 and was henceforth operate only as a coach in Považská Bystrica.

As the then second division coach Marko was in 1965 appointed to the Czechoslovak national team. Although he managed with the selection team to qualify for the 1970 World Cup in Mexico, where the CSSR difference, however, devoid of points already in the group stage.

After this failure Marko dedicated to the club football again and coached from 1970 to 1972 Inter Bratislava, then two years again Spartak Považska Bystrica and 1975-1977 ZVL Žilina. Then Marko spent three years as a member of the Coaches Commission of the Czechoslovak Football Association. From 1980 to 1982 he coached the team from Banik Prievidza.
