Jozef Pribilinec

Jozef Pribilinec ( born July 6, 1960 in Kremnica ) is a former Slovak mountaineers who, starting for Czechoslovakia, Olympic champion.

1979 Pribilinec European Junior Champion in 10 km walk. The following year, he won at the Olympic Games in Moscow, ranked 20th in the 20 km walk. His first international medal winning Pribilinec at the European Championships in 1982 when he won silver behind the Spaniard José Marín. At the World Championships in 1983, he again won silver when he was only 10 seconds behind the Mexicans Ernesto Canto. The Mexicans won the following year at the Olympic Games, while Pribilinec could not attend because of the Olympic boycott.

1986 won Pribilinec at the European Championships in Stuttgart his first title when he was in a thrilling contest against Maurizio Damilano prevailed from Italy, who was two seconds behind Pribilinec in the target. At the World Championships 1987 Damilano could return the favor and won before Pribilinec. In the Summer Olympics 1988 Pribilinec won gold in Olympic record time of 1:19:57 hours with three seconds ahead of Ronald Weigel from the GDR. Third Damilano was before Marin.

With two titles and three silver medals from Slovakia was one of the outstanding mountaineers of the 80s.
