József Csermák

József Csermák [ jo ː ʒɛf tʃɛrma ː k] ( born February 14, 1932 in Senec, today Slovakia, † 14 January 2001 Tapolca Veszprém County ) was a Hungarian hammer thrower and Olympic champion.

At the age of 20 he won at the Olympic Games in Helsinki with the world record distance of 60.34 meters. This was the first hammer throw with a distance of 60 m. He succeeded his teammate Imre Németh not only as an Olympic champion, but also as a world record holder.

Two years later, at the European Athletics Championships in Berne in 1954, he was able to secure with a width of 59.72 m the Bronze Medal.

2001 Csermák died at the age of 68 years to a heart attack.
