Jørgen Brønlund

Jørgen Brønlund (born 14 December 1877 in Ilulissat, † end of November 1907 at Brønlunds Grav, Lambert, Greenland ) was a Greenlandic polar explorer, educator and translator. He participated in two Danish Expeditions to East Greenland.

Brønlund was an Inuk and the son of a hunter. He was a friend since childhood of Knud Rasmussen, whose father Pastor in Ilulissat ( Jakobshavn time ) was. He participated as a Musher part in the Danmark Expedition 1906-1908, the Peter Høeg -Hagen (1877-1907) ended tragically for him, the expedition leader Ludvig Mylius - Erichsen and cartographers Niels in November, 1907. Brønlund 1908 was found on the east coast of Lambert- country to a place you (79 ° 9 ' 18 "N, 19 ° 4' 0" W79.155 - 19.066666666667 ) today called Brønlunds Grav. He had his diary and the country recordings and maps from Høeg - Hagen with her.

The last entry of his diary reads:

Died 79 Fjord to attempt return over the ice in the month of November, I come here with decreasing moonlight, could not continue due to frostbite on the feet and the dark. One of the most famous and beautiful poems by the Danish poet Thøger Larsen entitled Jørgen Brønlund. The first verse can be translated as:

Lonely was never a soul on a star as you can before death in the Eisnacht distance.

The Jørgen - Brønlund Fjord in Pearyland is named after him.
