Juan Antonio Marín

Juan Antonio Marín ( born March 2, 1975 in San José ) is a former Costa Rican tennis player.

Career

Marín, who was born in San José, played after the beginning of his career, first under the Spanish flag, since he had moved at the age of fourteen years with his parents to Spain. In 1998, he decided to continue to compete for his country Costa Rica.

Throughout his career, Marín celebrated some successes on the second-rate Challenger Tour. In individual, he won five titles, as well as a further double on the side of Juan Martín Del Potro. On the ATP Tour, he was also able to win a singles title and also starred in another final. Both times he made it to the tournament in Båstad: In 1997, he was subject to Magnus Norman before he Andreas Vinciguerra could defeat two years later. At Grand Slam tournaments he came, even though he has achieved a total of 17 appearances in the singles competitions, never past the first round also. His highest singles ranking in the world rankings, he reached on 11 October 1999 with 55th position in the double he was ranked 188 in February 2007.

In 2000 he took part in the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta. He joined merely indicates in individual competition, where he scored in the opening round to Yevgeny Kafelnikov. Towards the later gold medalist Marín had no chance, he clearly lost with 0:6, 1:6.

Marín played between 1999 and 2006 a total of 10 matches for the Costa Rican Davis Cup team. While its individual balance sheet with 9:4 victories is positive, its double balance with 3:6 victories is negative.
