Juan Antonio Orenga

Juan Antonio Orenga Forcada ( born July 29, 1966 in Castellon de la Plana ) is a Spanish basketball coach and former player.

Career

Player

Juan Antonio Orenga began his career in the youth of Real Madrid. The " Royal ", he celebrated in the 1983/84 season his debut in the first team this season and won the championship. From 1984 to 1988 he played for the smaller clubs Madrid CB Collado Villalba and CD Caja Madrid before he was hired in the summer of 1988 by CB Estudiantes. In the 1990/91 season, he reached with his team to the final of the Spanish Cup, but failed there at FC Barcelona. For his good individual performances, he was named MVP of the tournament. In the 1991/92 season finally Orenga won with his club the trophy by a 61:56 against CAI Zaragoza and reached that season and the Final Four of the European Cup of Champions.

For the 1996/97 season Orenga returned to his youth club Real Madrid and won in his first year with a 78:64 against Mash Verona the Eurocup.

After two seasons at the " Royal ", substitute Juan Antonio Orenga to Unicaja Malaga, where he reached the final of the Korać Cup 1999/2000. His team was defeated there, however Limoges CSP.

In 2000 he moved to Cáceres CB, where he finished his career during the 2002/ 03 season.

National

Juan Antonio Orenga took as a junior with Spain participated in the U-16 European Championship 1983 in Tübingen, where his team failed to Yugoslavia until the endgame. His first game for the senior team, he celebrated on 24 November 1988 against Switzerland. In the European Basketball Championships 1991, he won the bronze medal with Spain. He was part of the squad for the Olympic Games in 1992, for the world championships in 1994 and 1998 and for the European Championships in 1993, 1995 and 1997, another podium finish he did not succeed. Overall, he brought it to 128 inserts in the Spanish national team.

Coach

Juan Antonio Orengas first stop as head coach was his former club CB Estudiantes, whom he assisted in the season 2005/ 06. In January, however, he was dismissed for failure. Then Orenga joined the coaching staff of the Spanish Association where he could celebrate as a coach of various youth national teams success. He won the U -20 Silver Medal 2007, bronze in 2010 and finally gold in 2011., The Spanish U-19, he supervised at the World Cup in 2009 and the U -18 he won in 2012 the prestigious Albert Schweitzer Tournament. In addition, he worked from 2008 to 2012 as an assistant coach of the senior national team before he took over the post of national coach on 28 November 2012.
