Juan Carlos Unzué

Juan Carlos Unzué Labiano ( born April 22, 1967 in Pamplona ) is a retired Spanish football goalkeeper and current coach. Most recently, he was head coach of Real Racing Club de Santander.

Playing career

Unzué played his first professional game in the services of CA Osasuna a 0-0 draw away to Real Murcia on February 8, 1987. In this and the following season he made seven more league games for CA Osasuna. In 1988, he moved to FC Barcelona. In his two years with the Catalans, he stayed away during the goalkeeper Andoni Zubizarreta behind and came into the league five times used. The FC Barcelona was also the only station in his career, when he won titles, namely the Spanish Cup in 1990 and the European Cup Winners' Cup 1988/89 at the same time. 1990 he moved to FC Sevilla. In the first division club from Andalusia he missed in the first five seasons almost not a single League game, even in its sixth season, he played more than half of the league games. Only his seventh and final season at Seville, in which he claimed Monchi only initially was second goalkeeper was by descent in the Segunda División at the end of the 1996/97 season marked by failure.

For the season 1997/98 he moved to CD Tenerife. In his two-year stay in the Canaries, he completed about half of all league games and rose again in his second year starting in the second Spanish league. Between 1999 and 2001 he played for Real Oviedo, remained there but, without denying a single League game, goalkeeper Esteban behind. With Oviedo he had to join the in the second Spanish League for the third time in the 2000 /01 season. Since Unzué did not want to in the second division, he moved back to his hometown club CA Osasuna. In the first year he was still regular keeper, in the second year, only second choice, so that Unzué decided after the 2002/ 03 season to end his career.

Coaching career

In 2003 he was appointed under coach Frank Rijkaard to the goalkeeper coach of FC Barcelona. Even after the dismissal Rijkaard he remained under the new coach Josep Guardiola at this position until the end of the 2009/10 season in office. For the 2010/11 season Unzué took over as coach of the CD Numancia. After leading Numancia this season in tenth place Segunda División, he returned back then as goalkeeping coach for FC Barcelona.

On June 19, 2012 Real Racing Club de Santander announced that Unzué for the new season head coach of the first team will. A few months later, the club parted again from Unzué.
