Judah ben Asher

Yehuda ben Asher (* June 30, 1270 in Cologne, † July 4, 1349 in Toledo ) was a German Talmudist and later rabbi in Toledo.

He was a son of Asher ben Jehiel, with whom he later moved to Toledo. His - possibly pseudepigraphisches - " Testament" is an example of this independent medieval literary genre. He describes there his family history, beginning with the time of the grandfather Yehiel ben Asher, who had to flee from Germany, draws his own, dependent on the charity of the Jewish community of Toledo scholarly life, then admonishes his son to study certain fonts. The text ends with his actual Testament.

Yehuda ben Asher was the brother of Jacob ben Asher.
