Jügderdemidiin Gürragchaa

Dschügderdemidiin Gürragtschaa ( Sansar ) ( mongolian Жүгдердемидийн Гүррагчаа ( Сансар ) * December 15, 1947 in Raschaant, Bulgan aimag, Mongolian People's Republic ) is an engineer and former cosmonaut. He is the first, and so far only, Mongol in space.

Life

After Dschügderdemidiin Gürragtschaa had studied aviation and aerospace technology in Ulan Bator, he graduated in 1977 successfully his training as an engineer for aeronautics and space technology at the Military Academy of Engineers of the Air Force, " Prof. J. N. Zhukovsky " from. He was taken March 1, 1978 as a cosmonaut of the Intercosmos program. In 1981, he flew as Research Cosmonaut with the tenth visiting team of the Salyut 6 space. Shuttle spacecraft Soyuz 39 was with the landing on 30 March 1981, he retired from the cosmonaut corps.

Gürragtschaa was Major General of the Mongolian Air Force. Later he was appointed as Vice-Chairman of the Central Defence Council of the Mongolian People's Republic. These Gürragtschaa was the head of a scientific institute in Ulan Bator. Since 1997 Gürragtschaa named Sansar ( "Space" ) instead of a Mongol clan name after the knowledge of its actual clan membership was lost during the communist period due to a ban. From 2000 to 2004, Major General Gürragtschaa was defense minister of his country.

Gürragtschaa is married and has one child.
