Ruuskanen jumps for Puijon Hiihtoseura and stood in 2000 for the first time together with Veli -Matti Lindström, Akseli Lajunen and Kimmo Yliriesto in the team squad at the Junior World Championship in Slovak Štrbské Pleso. The team reached the 3rd place. For the season 2001/ 02 at FIS Ski Jumping Continental Cup, he was then re-appointed to the national team. After two successful seasons, he was on 28 November 2003 for the first time in the squad for a World Cup in Kuusamo. The competition on the large hill, he finished on the 32nd. After Ruuskanen 2003/ 04 the various Top 10 results in the Continental Cup in the season, he was again included in the A-National squad. On 23 January 2004, he reached it on the large hill Hakuba with 6th place his best result in a World Cup competition. However, he could not repeat that success and jump so far successful only in the Continental Cup, where he could win some podium finishes in the 2004/05 season. After three World Cup competitions in 2007 without much success, he was called to the national team again on 14 February 2009 and jumped in Oberstdorf in ski flying on the 28th place.

In the aftermath Ruuskanen was mostly used in the World Cup only as a substitute. In January 2010 he was at the World Cup in Sapporo at the start. But this was due to the fact that the first team paused and Continental team launched. In the Finnish Championships on the large hill on March 27, 2011 in Kuopio, he was third behind Olli Muotka and Jarkko Määttä.
