Jujie Luan

Jujie Luan (Chinese order of the name Luan Jujie, Chinese栾 菊 杰, Pinyin Lúan Jujie; * July 14, 1958 in Nanjing ) is a Canadian foil fencer Chinese origin.

Luan was as a junior a promising runner and badminton player, but then changed at the age of 17 years for fencing. In 1978 she became vice - Junior World Champion. Luan was the first Asian fencer since 1901, who took part in an international tournament. In 1979 she won the Chinese title. In the World Fencing Championships 1981 in Clermont- Ferrand she finished second and only lost Cornelia Hanisch in the final. It was 1983, the first Asian to win an international fencing tournament, they also finished third at the World Fencing Championships in Vienna in 1983. Her biggest success was achieved by the Chinese in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, where she won the gold medal in the final against Hanisch. So she was the first Asian to have won fencing gold. In 1985, she moved to Edmonton in Canada, which she had met during the Summer Universiade in 1983; they first started but still for China. So Luan was third at the World Fencing Championships in Lausanne in 1987 and went on to the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, without achieving significant results.

In 1989, Luan definitively with her three children in Edmonton down in 1994 and was a Canadian citizen. It was fencing teacher and driving force behind the Edmonton Fencing Club. In addition, she challenged further in the World Cup and won the 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1999, the title of Canadian Champion.
