Julia Platt

Julia Barlow Platt ( born 14 September 1857 in San Francisco, † 1935) was vertebrate embryologist and politician.

She studied in Vermont and Harvard University and was awarded his doctorate in 1898 in Freiburg im Breisgau. She worked embryogenesis, especially the head development, from sharks and newts. She managed the proof of the involvement of ectodermal cells ( in this case, cells of the cranial neural crest ) on the cartilage of the skull elements. This contradicted the germ theory and provoked strong opposition in the research community. Other editors have supported their observations, the final confirmation was made by the work of Sven and Sven Hörstadius Sellman.

Julia Platt was not a permanent employment at university and in 1931 elected mayor of Pacific Grove.
