Julien Benneteau

Julien Benneteau ( born December 20, 1981 in Bourg -en- Bresse ) is a French tennis player. He is a Knight of the French National Order of Merit.

Career

Benneteau began at the age of four years playing tennis and is since 2000 a professional. In 2004 he succeeded for the first time jump into the top 100 of the world tennis rankings. His first title at an ATP tournament he won in 2003 in a double together with his fellow countryman Nicolas Mahut at the tournament in Metz. In Lyon, he secured in 2006 with Arnaud Clément his second tournament victory on the tour. His biggest success in the individual is the quarter-finals of the French Open in 2006, which he won with 2:6, 2:6, 3:6 against the Croats Ivan Ljubičić. On the way, he suggested, among others, the seeded players Radek Stepanek and Marcos Baghdatis. On 11 November 2009 Benneteau won in Paris -Bercy against the then world number one Roger Federer in three sets.

At the 2012 Olympic Games in London Benneteau competed in the individual and the doubles competition. After an opening win against Mikhail Youzhny was defeated in the second round in singles against the Swiss Roger Federer 2:6, 2:6. The double was successful, however, with Richard Gasquet, he won the bronze medal. They first defeated the Britons Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins, at position seven Indians Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan set Bopanna and set at position three Serb Janko Tipsarevic and Nenad Zimonjic. In the semifinals, they then had to Bob and Mike Bryan defeated from the U.S. before they defeated the Spaniards Feliciano Lopez and David Ferrer in straight sets in the match for bronze.

Since 2010 Benneteau plays for the French Davis Cup team.
