Julio Cobos

Julio César Cleto Cobos ( born April 30, 1955 in Godoy Cruz, Mendoza Province) is an Argentine politician (UCR, later FPV). He was between 2007 and 2011, the Vice President of the Government Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.

Life

Cobos studied engineering at the Universidad Tecnológica Nacional and worked after graduation in 1979 as a lecturer in the UTN, the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo ( uncu ) and the Universidad de Mendoza. In 1997 he was elected to the Regional Faculty Mendoza UTN dean.

Political career

1991 Cobos joined the UCR. In 1994, he began as an official in the secretariat to act for town planning office of mayor in Mendoza. He was Minister for the Environment and Public construction activity in the provincial government under Roberto Iglesias 1999. In 2003 he was elected governor of the province.

Cobos had a good one, based on mutual dialogue relationship with the Kirchner government, so that he was prepared for the vice presidential candidate in the formula of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner in 2007 to win UCR voters for the Frente para la Victoria. He was then expelled from the UCR. Fernández and Cobos won the election with 45.29 % of the clearly valid votes, so he took office on 10 December 2007.

On 18 July 2008 Cobos created a stir when he agreed amid a government crisis because of a conflict between Fernández and the agricultural associations in his capacity as President of the Senate against an initiative of the government increasing export taxes for some agricultural products (especially soybeans) and ensure that the project to fall brought what the conflict considerably defused, but the relationship with Fernández deteriorated. After this action he was in the second half of 2008 the most popular politicians in Argentina.

In September 2008, initiated Cobos negotiations with politicians of different parties to build an election platform called " Consenso Federal" for the 2009 elections.
