Julio Olarticoechea

Julio Jorge Olarticoechea ( born October 18, 1958 in Saladillo ) is a former Argentine footballer.

Career

Association

The 1.69 m wide midfielder played until 1981 with Racing Club de Avellaneda and then moved to River Plate to Buenos Aires. After a short stint with Boca Juniors, he joined in July 1985 for one year to FC Nantes in France. In 1987, he played one season for Argentinos Juniors, before he returned in July 1988 for Racing Club de Avellaneda, where he was active until 1990. At the end of his career he played for three years at Deportivo de Corrientes Mandiyú.

National

Olarticoechea participated in three World Cups with the Argentine national soccer team. 1982 failed to Argentina in the second round by Brazil, Olarticoechea but was not used. In 1986, he took the world title with Argentina, Olarticoechea starred in all seven games with, even in the final against the Federal Republic of Germany. In 1990 he was runner-up after a 0-1 defeat against the Federal Republic of Germany, where Olarticoechea was present in five games, but was not allowed to participate in the finals for his second yellow card in the semi-final against Italy. Overall Olarticoechea played from 1982 to 1990 in 32 internationals.
