Julio Terrazas Sandoval

Julio Cardinal Terrazas Sandoval, C.Ss.R. ( born March 7, 1936 in Valle Grande, Bolivia ) is Archbishop Emeritus of Santa Cruz de la Sierra.

Life

Julio Terrazas Sandoval resigned after his school days in the Redemptorist and received by theological, philosophical and socio-pedagogical studies on 29 July 1962, the sacrament of Holy Orders. He served as Superior of the Redemptorist community in Valle Grande, to him by Pope Paul VI. on April 15th 1978 appointed Auxiliary Bishop of La Paz and titular bishop of Apisa Maius. The episcopal ordination he received on 8 June of the same year by the Archbishop of Sucre, Josef Clemens Cardinal Maurer. Co-consecrators were the Apostolic Nuncio in Bolivia, Giuseppe Laigueglia, and the Archbishop of La Paz, Jorge Manrique Hurtado.

1982 Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Oruro, 1991, Archbishop of Santa Cruz de la Sierra. On 21 February 2001 Julio Terrazas Sandoval was taken as cardinal priest with the titular church of Santi Giovanni Battista de'Rossi in the College of Cardinals and is the first Bolivian cardinal, who was born in Bolivia. In 2004 he took part as papal representative on the tenth Eucharistic Congress of Argentina. He took after the death of John Paul II in part at the conclave of 2005. In 2006 he became president of the Bolivian Episcopal Conference.

On 12 November 2010 the Theological Faculty of Trier awarded him an honorary doctorate.

Cardinal Terrazas Sandoval is a member of the Pontifical Council for the Laity. Following the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI. He participated in the conclave of 2013.

On May 25, 2013 Pope Francis accepted the Julio Terrazas Sandoval put forward reasons of age resignation.
