Julius Frank

Johann Julius Gottfried Ludwig Frank or Julius Frank ( born December 8, 1808 in Gotha, † June 19, 1841 in São Paulo ) was a German lecturer at the Law Faculty of the University of São Paulo.

Career

Its origin is unclear. In biographical depictions from the 19th century is often alluded to the fact that he came from a highly mediatized noble family. In more modern depictions, however, is the talk that he was of Jewish origin. Still others say that he was the son of a bookbinder.

He was democratically minded. He joined while studying in Göttingen at a time opposition fraternity and had to flee abroad after the failed attack on the Frankfurt main station.

In Brazil, he was living under the name of Julius Frank, first as a clerk. He fell to a wealthy Brazilian who enabled him again to pursue academic careers. Frank taught in Sao Paulo history and philosophy. He taught primarily Kant and Fichte. He worked to bring about the introduction of the fraternity system in Brazil. In fact he has with some students the first Brazilian fraternity ( Portuguese: Bucharest ) was founded. Even in the imperial period, the Bucharest of great importance to the establishment of the Republican liberalism in Brazil had. At the beginning of the Brazilian Republic were indeed several members of the Bucharest Federal President.

He died of a lung infection (pneumonia ). As a Protestant, he could not be buried in a Catholic cemetery. Therefore His grave is located on one of the courtyards of the former high school building and was decorated after his death for a long time student with flowers.
