Julius Kühn-Institut

The Julius Kühn -Institut - Federal Research Centre for Cultivated Plants ( JKI) is in the business of the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture ( BmEL ) due to the law for the reorganization of departmental research of 24 October 2007 established research facility.

In the Institute that bears the name of the agricultural scientist Julius Kühn, the Federal Biological Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry and the Federal Centre for Breeding Research on Cultivated involving two institutes of the Federal Agricultural Research Centre were (Institute of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science and Institute of Crop and Grassland Science ) summarized. It has its headquarters in Quedlinburg and several branch offices in Berlin, Braunschweig, Darmstadt, Dossenheim, Dresden Pillnitz, Sindelsdorf, United Lüsewitz, Kleinmachnow, Münster and Siebeldingen.

Head of the institution is the horticultural scientist and Phytomediziner Georg F. Backhaus, who had previously been since 2002 Head of the Federal Biological Research Centre in Berlin and Braunschweig.
