The Dar es Salaam Airport is the main airport of Tanzania. It is situated about twelve kilometers south-west of Dar es Salaam and is built with a late 1980s four-lane highway well connected to the city center. In 2004 1.011.392 passengers were handled here, representing a growth of 23.9 % over the previous year.

In addition to the main runway, which is 3000 m long, there is a shorter length of 1000 m.

From the German colonial government, the first airport construction in Kurasini in Temeke district was initiated in 1918. Later there were Ukonga area to Dar es Salaam Airport, Terminal I. The ever growing demand made ​​the construction of a second terminal is necessary, which happened in 1979. It was inaugurated in October 1984 by President Julius Nyerere. Twenty years later, in October 2005, was renamed Mwalimu Julius Nyerere International Airport Kambarage Dar es Salaam International Airport ( DIA). With Swiss, the airport is served by direct flights from Zurich.
