Julius Wilbrand

Julius Bernhard Friedrich Adolph Wilbrand ( born August 22, 1839 in Giessen, † June 22, 1906 ) was a German chemist. Wilbrand was the son of the physician Julius Franz Joseph Wilbrand (1811-1894) and of Albertine Knapp ( 1817-1892 ). He studied from 1858 at the University of Giessen Law and a Ph.D. in chemistry in 1861 for Dr. phil. He then worked at the University of Göttingen with Friedrich Konrad Beilstein and described in 1863 as the first synthesis of the symmetrical trinitrotoluene, better known as TNT.
