Jump Up (Drum and Bass)

Jump Up is the name of a sub- genre of drum and bass, which was very popular in the second half of the 1990s.

Characteristic of Jump Up are the deep synth basslines and a monotonous, fast breakbeat, hardly changed during the tracks, unlike other Jungle- sub-genres. There usually comes a simple two step rhythm used, supported by reggae and hip-hop samples. Such tracks, where the party factor is in the foreground, are now often referred to derisively as a clown Step due to their simple beat structures and catchy bass lines.

Typical artists of this genre are Aphrodite, DJ Hype and DJ Zinc. During this for the "classic" jump-up sound of the 1990s are, there are more names like Desire, Original Sin, Sub Zero, Hazard, Twisted Individual and TC, which are characteristic of recent trends today.

Jump Up is not to be confused with the dance from Trinidad and Tobago.
