Jun Bernardino

Emilio The "Jun " Bernardino, Jr. ( born November 9, 1947 † 24 March 2007) was a Filipino sports official and for several years chairman of the Philippine Basketball Association ( PBA)

Biography

Bernardino was during his studies of sport management at the University of the Philippines Basketball players at the Ateneo de Manila High School Teams Blue Eaglets and the Fighting Maroons Diliman. After graduation he was during the 1970s and 1980s, the team manager of Vintage Sports, before he became Executive Director of the PBA.

In 1993 he became Chairman ( Commissioner) of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA ), and held that office until 2002. During his tenure, the teams of Tanduay Rhum Masters (1999) and Red Bull joined the League in 2000. In addition, the activity of foreign players basketball players was made possible during his tenure. In 2004, he was the founder of the Shakey's V-League, a women's league in volleyball. Most recently he was during the season 2006-2007 Chairman of the National Collegiate Athletic Association ( NCAA), the National Association of Sports Clubs of eight universities. In addition, he was at times also Exektuivdirektor Basketball Association ( Samahang ng Pilipinas Basketbol ). After his death, the cup of the PBA in his honor was " Jun- Bernardino - Throphy " renamed.
