Junior Wells

Junior Wells (born 9 December 1934 in Memphis, Tennessee, USA, † January 15, 1998 in Chicago, Illinois), actually Amos Blackmore, was an American blues musician. His instrument was the harmonica. He played with Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Magic Sam, Lonnie Brooks and the Rolling Stones.

Biography

Born in Memphis, Wells grew up in Arkansas. At the age of seven years he played the harmonica, which was taught to him by his cousin, Junior Parker and Sonny Boy Williamson. In 1948 he went to Chicago. At 18, he played in the band of Muddy Waters, with whom he also made ​​his first recordings. In the 1960s he worked primarily with Buddy Guy.

The most known songs by Junior Wells Messin 'With the Kid and Little By Little, his best-known album is Hoodoo Man Blues by 1965.

He had an appearance in the film Blues Brothers 2000, which was released shortly after his death. Junior Wells died in 1998 of a heart attack while he was in cancer treatment. He was buried in Oak Woods Cemetery in Chicago. At his funeral, Billy Branch, Sugar Blue and Harmonica Hinds played a funeral march.
