Juniperus pseudosabina

Juniperus pseudosabina is a plant belonging to the family of the cypress family ( Cupressaceae ). It is native to central Asia.

Description

Juniperus pseudosabina grows as evergreen, upright or low -lying shrub or small tree that can reach heights of growth of up to 12 meters. The dense branches usually go straight from the branches off and have a square or pencil -shaped cross-section.

There are trained both acicular and scale-like leaves. Especially seedlings and young trees have needle- shaped leaves which are on the branches decussate or in Dreierwirteln. They are 4-8 mm long and have a pointed tip. The scale leaves are diamond-shaped molded at a length of 1.5 to 2 mm and have an attached or detached, blunt tip. The located on the underside of leaves, oblong or broad - line-shaped gland located at the shed leaves in the center of the page and in the needles at their base.

Juniperus pseudosabina is dioecious getrenntgeschlechtig ( dioecious ). The male cones are egg-shaped with a length of about 2 to 3 millimeters to approximately spherically shaped. They have six to eight Mikrosporophylle which carry two to three pollen sacs. The female cones are shaped ovate to broadly ovate, with a length from 0.7 to 1.4 centimeters and a thickness of 0.6 to 1 centimeter. At maturity they are back bluish black to brownish black colored and frosted blue-green. Each pin carries a slightly squeezed seed. The grooved seeds are ovate shape with a length of 6 to 7 millimeters and a width of 4 to 6 millimeters. Your base is tapered or rounded and its tip is blunt.

Occurrence

The natural range of Juniperus pseudosabina extends from East -Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Northern Afghanistan and Pakistan in the west, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, southern Siberia and China's Xinjiang province to the west of Mongolia in the east.

Juniperus pseudosabina thrives at altitudes of 2000 to 4000 meters, especially in thickets in mountainous areas.

The species Juniperus pseudosabina is divided into up to two varieties:

  • Juniperus pseudosabina var pseudosabina is the nominate and only grows a shrub.
  • Juniperus pseudosabina var turkestanica ( Comm ) Silba growing both as a tree and a shrub. A synonym is Juniperus turkestanica Comm.

Endangering

Juniperus pseudosabina is classified as " not at risk " in the IUCN Red List. It should however be noted that a re-examination of risk is necessary.
