Jürgen Jürgens

Jürgen Jürgens ( born October 5, 1925 in Frankfurt am Main; † August 4, 1994 in Hamburg ) was a German choirmaster and conductor.

Jurgens received his musical education in his hometown with Kurt Thomas at Musician High School and studied with Konrad Lechner in Freiburg later. In 1960 he became director of the Academy of Music at the University of Hamburg. In 1955 he founded the Monteverdi Choir of Hamburg, which he headed until his death, and particularly the care of early music and the work of Claudio Monteverdi dedicated. Together with the choir he recorded numerous LP recordings. Jürgens was also editor of numerous grade editions.

In 1985, he was honored by the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg with the Biermann - Ratjen Medal for his artistic services to the City of Hamburg, 1991, Johannes Brahms Medal. He was buried in the General Cemetery Ohlsdorf in Hamburg.
