JUSCANZ

JUSSCANNZ is the abbreviation for an informal group of industrialized non-member States of the European Union. The individual referred to in the acronym countries are Japan, the USA, Switzerland, Canada, Australia, Norway and New Zealand. In international negotiations, this group is sometimes extended to include countries such as Iceland, Mexico, South Korea, and others. JUSSCANNZ was one of the key groups of international negotiations in the 1990s and early 2000s. She now operates as a rule under the name of Umbrella Group. Switzerland has now turned away from JUSSCANNZ / Umbrella Group and forms together with Mexico, South Korea, Liechtenstein and Monaco, the Environmental Integrity Group ( EIG ).

The merger as JUSSCANNZ is not regulated formally, but results in fact from many similar interests as westernized industrial countries as well as from the non- membership of the European Union and the G77 group of emerging and developing countries mentioned.

The JUSSCANNZ group was a key player in numerous international negotiation processes, for example through multilateral environmental agreements. She played along with the European Union and the Group of 77 a significant role in the negotiations for the Kyoto Protocol on climate change. In the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management, driven by the environmental program of the United Nations, held regular regional meetings between the EU and the JUSSCANNZ States.
