Justa Holz-Mänttäri

Justa Holz- Mänttäri (* 1936 in Hamburg ) is a German linguist and translator.

Life and research

Wood Mänttäri is a translator for German and Finnish. She holds a doctorate in philosophy and worked as a professor at the University of Tampere in Finland.

Wood Mänttäris most famous work, Translational action, was published in 1984. After its developed theory of translational action is not only one of the translators, but include also the author of the source text, the client and the target audience for the translational process. The role of the translator is to produce a target text whose purposes are determined by all parties in advance. The purpose of translation is the emergence of a message carrier that meets these purposes for the target audience.
