Justin Najmy

Justin Abraham Najmy BA ( born April 23, 1898 in Aleppo, Syria, † June 11 1968 in the USA) was the first Apostolic Exarch of the United States, and a bishop of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church.

Life

On 25 December 1926, dedicated to Justin Abraham Najmy to the religious priest of the Basilian Aleppinischen (BA). He was sent to the United States and worked as a pastor at St. Basil the Great in Central Falls. The appointment as Patriarchal Exarch of the United States, with simultaneous appointment as Titular Bishop of Augustopolis in Phrygia he received on 27 January 1966. Archbishop Athanasios Toutoungi of Aleppo consecrated him, together with the co-consecrators Archbishop Maximos V. Hakim and Archbishop Paul Achkar, on 29 May 1966 Bishop. Under his leadership, the Church of the Annunciation was built in a suburb of Boston. He died on June 11, 1968 following a sudden heart failure and was buried in the parish cemetery of the Church of St. Basil the Great in Cumberland (Rhode Iceland ). He was succeeded by Archbishop Joseph Elias Tawil.
