Jusztinián György Serédi

Jusztinián György Cardinal Serédi OSB, actually György Szapucsek ( born April 23 1884 in Deáki (now Diakovce, Slovakia), † March 29, 1945 in Esztergom, Hungary) was Archbishop of Esztergom.

Life

From a Slovak family of craftsmen coming, György Serédi entered 1901 as a brother in the Benedictine Archabbey Jusztinián Pannonhalma in Hungary and studied in various houses of the Order of the subjects philosophy and Catholic theology. On 14 July 1908 he received the Sacrament of Holy Orders, and then lived as a monk in Rome. There he was part of the faculty of the International College of Saint Anselm in Rome and provided an extended period, the Office Procurator General of the Benedictine Congregation.

Pope Pius XI. Serédi appointed in December 1927, Archbishop of Esztergom and Primate of Hungary and so on took him in the same month as cardinal priest with the titular church of Santi Andrea e Gregorio al Monte Celio in the College of Cardinals to. The bishop ordained Jusztinián Serédi by Pope Pius XI. January 8, 1928. He was Senator from Hungary and participated in the conclave of 1939. After learning of the utter bombing of Budapest, he fell ill and died on March 29, 1945 in Esztergom from a heart attack. Serédi was buried in the local cathedral.
