Juwel (grape)
Jewel is a white grape that was founded in 1951 by August Herold at the State College and Research Institute for Viticulture and Pomology in Weinsberg (Baden- Württemberg) crossed from Kerner × Silvaner. In October 1987, this variety was registered under the name jewel in the list of varieties and received plant variety protection. The variety is medium - strong vigorous and powerful wines are reminiscent of Kerner.
A significant proportion of the Neuzucht had Josef Schaffer. In the variety name " Ju - " stands for his nickname Jupp, "we " for the vineyard and "l" for the location of the fish farm, Lauffen.
In 2007, the Rebstatistik recorded a bestockte area of 26 hectares in Germany, after a further 40 acres were collected in 2001.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics
In the ampelography the habit is described as follows:
- The shoot tip is open. It is medium dense white wool with a slightly reddish approach. The young green leaves are bronze-colored speckled ( Anthocyanflecken ).
- The medium-sized leaves are usually three-lobed. The petiole is slightly overlapping closed. The leaf surface (also called lamina ) is slightly blistered.
- The grape is medium to large and moderately dichtbeerig. The roundish berries are medium in size and of a yellowish - green color. The aroma of the berry is almost neutral, but slightly idiosyncratic.
