K. G. Saur Verlag

KG Saur was named after the later director Klaus Gerhard Saur German publisher based in Munich. He is since 2006 as part of the De Gruyter Saur Verlag De Gruyter.

History

The publishing house was founded in 1948 by origin Karl-Otto Saur and Margarethe Gringmuth as an engineering firm for operating and office organization with damaligem seat opposite the Deutsches Museum. In 1954, the company was renamed the documentation technology and moved to the Rosenheimerstraße in Munich.

1963 Klaus Gerhard Saur joined the publishing company, and the company moved into the neighboring Pullach. After the death of the founder Karl- Otto Saur (1966 ) the company was in publishing documentation Saur oHG renamed and out from now on by his two sons Karl- Otto Saur junior and Klaus Gerhard Saur.

1972 participated Daniel Melcher from Charlottesville as a silent partner. Three years later, the re- transfer of the company seat in the Solln district of Munich. After the founding of KG Saur Inc. in New York and the Minerva publication Saur Verlag GmbH 1977 was renamed KG Saur a year later, in Paris, KG Saur Editeur SARL founded and assumed the Clive Bingley -Verlag London and from the KG Saur Publishing Ltd.. founded.

Due to economic difficulties in some locations the London Contractors in 1978 sold to the local Library Association, the New York Contractors was also sold, but the group took over in Oxford Hans Zell Publishers. In 1983, in New York, the foundation of the local publisher. In 2005, the publisher bought the major humanities Max Niemeyer Verlag.

In 2006 Saur / Niemeyer were eventually taken over by the publishing house De Gruyter. Since the products of the publishing appear under the umbrella brand De Gruyter.

Publications

The works include the General German Biography (ADB ), the German Biographical Encyclopedia (DBE ), the Bibliotheca Teubneriana and the World Biographical Information System with biographical information on almost 5 million people, from the 4th millennium BC to the Present. In 1981, the total directory of German literature was completed, a retrospective national bibliography for the German -speaking world. In imprint De Gruyter Saur the library science series and works to be continued.
