Kaarle Krohn

Leopold Kaarle Krohn ( born May 10, 1863 in Helsinki, † June 19, 1933 in Sammatti ) was a Finnish folklorist.

Career

Kaarle Krohn, son of Julius Krohn and brother of Aino Kallas, 1898 Associate Professor (ten years later Professor ) for Finnish and Comparative Folklore ( suomalaisen yes vertailevan kansanrunoudentutkimuksen ) at the University of Helsinki, which he is the world's first professor of narrative research. In 1907 he founded the Federation of Folklore Fellows together with Johannes Bolte and Axel Olrik ( 1864-1917 ); from 1911 he was the first editor of the Folklore Fellows ' Communications ( FFC). In 1917 he became chairman of the Finnish Literature Society ( Suomalaisen Kirjallisuuden Seuratt ).

Krohn was a founding member of the Finnish Academy of Sciences ( Suomalainen Tiedeakatemia - Academia Scientiarum Fennica - Finnish Academy of Science and Letters ) as well as the magazines Virittäjä (1896) and Finno -Ugric research (1901 ). He is regarded as the actual founder of the " geographical- historical method " ( Finnish School ), which he described in 1926 in the book The folkloric working method.
