Kai Steffen

Kai Steffen ( born June 19, 1961 in Hamburg ) is a former German football player.

Career

Steffen played in youth at Hamburger SV, before he left the USA in 1979 and played in the NASL, the U.S. professional league for California Surf. In 1982 he returned to Germany and first played in the amateur team of HSV. In the 1983/84 season Steffen was appointed together with Holger Stein from the Amateuerelf in the squad of first team since the HSV had fallen into great Personalnot. He received for this season, first the status of contractual amateur. Steffen thus included both the professional as well as amateur squad in Hamburg. In 1984 he became a full professional and remained until 1986, when HSV. But he did not manage to break through and went back to the U.S. to Los Angeles Lazers. Overall Kai Steffen came on seven Bundesliga appearances.
