Emperor chair (Swiss German: χæisər ˌ ʃtuəl ) is a town and municipality in the district of Zurzach in the canton Aargau in Switzerland. It is located on the High Rhine on the border with Germany and the canton of Zurich. With regard to the surface it is the smallest municipality in the canton and together with the community Rivaz ( also 0.32 km ²) and the smallest municipality in Switzerland.

Geography

The only 32 -hectare municipal area covers the north a steep hillside that slopes down to the shores of the Rhine back, and one in the south increased lying flat plane. 3 hectares are forested and built over 14 hectares. The highest point is 368 meters, the deepest at 334 meters. Neighboring municipalities are the Baden-Württemberg Hohentengen in the north, the Canton of Zurich Weiach the east and the aargauische Fisibach in the West.

History

From 1980 until his death in 2005, the actor Jón Laxdal ran a small theater in the historic cellars of the " St. Blasier office house" that has enjoyed great popularity with over 40 productions in the region. It has been run by family members.

Attractions

The compact town is a listed town is in the shape of an acute triangle. Today's landmark Imperial chair, the Upper Tower ( often mistakenly referred to as a Roman tower) was built in the mid 13th century and has been designed as south cornerstone of the city's fortifications. It towers above the town and is the only surviving part of the old fortifications.

Coat of arms

The blazon of the coat of arms reads: " To the right sixfold confess changes from blue and red " The oldest representation of the coat of arms dates from 1514 and was derived from the coat of arms of the Free by Emperor chair, but which had eight instead of six fields. Also, they had replaced the white of the Bishop of Constance by the Canton of Zurich blue.

On December 31, 2013 393 people lived in Imperial Chair, the proportion of foreigners was 23.4 %. At the 2000 census, 44.9 % were reformed, 28.8 % Roman Catholic, 11.1 % Muslim; 1.1% belonged to other faiths. 85.5 % identified German as their main language, Albanian 7.1%, 2.3% Italian, 2.1% English.

Politics and Law

Traffic

Immediately south of the town runs the important Hauptstrasse 7 between Basel and Winterthur. A Rhine bridge connects Emperor chair with Hohentengen. The connection to the public transport network is carried out by the stop opened in 1995 on the railway line Koblenz- Bülach -Winterthur and by two postal routes to Baden and Bülach.

Education

The community has a primary school, the Kindergarten is run jointly with the neighboring community Fisibach. The junior high school and the school district can be visited in Zurzach, the secondary school in Rekingen. By July 2009, Emperor chair had its own school district, which had to be closed, however, due to lack of students. The nearest Canton schools ( high schools ) are located in Baden and betting rings.
