In tie - Malterdingen is connected to the Rhine Valley line and thus in the direction of Freiburg and Offenburg. The Kaiserstuhlbahn is the last fully intact and fully in operation standard gauge route of the former South German Railway Company ( SEG). On the route, see passenger, freight and heritage railway operation ( Rebenbummler ) instead. Some of the sections are traversed in bus operation. Today is operated by Endingen from the seat of the transport company Breisgau- Emperor chair of the total passenger and freight on all non-electrified railroads in the metropolitan area of Freiburg.

History

The track parts Gottheim bars at the Kaiser chair place and bolt - Malterdingen - Endingen were opened on 15 December 1894 at September 7, 1895 followed by the remaining portion Endingen - Breisach. Builder was the Baden railway consortium under the railway entrepreneur Mr. brook stone, which brought the train on December 8, 1897 with effect from April 1, 1897, together with the Bregtalbahn and cell - Todtnauer Railway in the South German Railway Company ( SEG).

After the SEG had renounced the end of 1952 because of the high deficits of all its branch lines to an extension of the concession, the Kaiserstuhlbahn was acquired with effect from January 1, 1953 the State of Baden -Württemberg and incorporated into the Mittelbadische Railway Company Ltd (MEG ).

Under the MEG to rationalize and modernize the track began with the complete conversion to diesel operation, the introduction of the Zugleitbetriebes as well as the one-man operation for railcars. From the mid- 1950s, the bus developed with high growth rates for the second leg of the passenger traffic.

On 1 October 1971, the MEG merged with the West German Railway Company Ltd ( SWEG ) based in Lahr, which was renamed in 1984 in West German transport corporation. Through the merger, the workshop of the Munster train in Sulzburg was abandoned and the maintenance of rolling stock to be transferred to Endingen. In 1978, the museum steam train " Rebenbummler " on its regular operation.

The S -Bahn operation

Together with other companies founded the SWEG on 1 January 1994 the Regional Transport Authority Freiburg ( RVF ). The concept of Breisgau- S -Bahn saw both for track Freiburg, Breisach and for the Kaiserstuhlbahn for an integrated clock movement with modern light rail cars to help to bind the emperor chair at Freiburg region. However, there is no clock traffic between Breisach and key.

In 1995, the SWEG together with the Freiburg traffic AG each hold a 50 % share of the subsidiary Breisgau- S- Bahn GmbH ( BOD ), which took over the operation on the Breisach train 1997. Thus, the entire traffic was now around the Imperial throne in the hands of SWEG. 2002, the acquisition of the Elz Valley Railway followed by the BOD. For the ranges of Kaiserstuhlbahn, Breisach train, Elz Valley Railway and Munster train a total of 21 transport railcars were obtained by the Regio - Shuttle RS1, all of which are stationed in Endingen.

Vehicle parking and operation

As the initial Kaiserstuhlbahn received five tender locomotives No. 333-337 of the type Prussian T3, 15 two-axle passenger cars with open stages and skylight roofs, nine freight cars and three Bahnmeistereiwagen. Most of the freight car was later set at the state railway. All vehicles had until the introduction of air brakes in the 1930s Heberleinbremsen. As a major siding had the Riegeler brewery in Riegel am Kaiserstuhl a greater number of its own Bierkühlwagen for the beer shipment, all of which were set as private freight cars at the state railway. The only remaining Riegeler Bierkühlwagen is preserved in museums at the museum steam train Rebenbummler.

Locomotive 384 has been used since 1978 as the motive power of the steam train museum Rebenbummler, which consists entirely of former SEG vehicles Kaiserstuhlbahn and other SEG routes.

1948 were purchased from the type Württemberg T 6 which were as No. 391, 393 and 394 at least until the middle of the decade in the use of the Federal Railroad cars with three steam locomotives. 394 locomotive arrived in 1974 as a showpiece to the Europa Park Rust and is obtained. After the transition to the MEG 1953, largely scrapped the old car park of the initial of 1894/95 and replaced him with more modern or modernized cars from other former SEG tracks from Rheinhessen. All the steam engines of the T3 type were scrapped in the course of the 1950s. There followed in 1956 the purchase of the diesel locomotive V44.01 type Krauss-Maffei ML 440 C. After buying several brand-new MAN railbuses VT 23 rotational viscometer, VT25 and VT27 were the old railcar T22 and T24 only needed as a reserve.
