Kajiado County

Kajiado County ( up to 2010 Kajiado District ) is a county in the Kenyan Rift Valley Province. The capital of the county is Kajiado. In County 2009 687.312 people lived on 21292.7 km ².

The County is bordered on the southwest by Tanzania to the northeast Nairobi. Most people in Kajiado County are among the Maasai and live a semi-nomadic from the livestock. The region is considered as semi-desert, only 8 % of the land area is arable. With three permanently water-bearing rivers, the water supply of the county is a problem. 2006 possessed 28 % of households have a drinking water supply.

Structure

The county is divided into divisions. There are three electoral districts, Kajiado Central, Kajiado Kajiado North and South. Under the Constitution of 2010, the districts of Kajiado Central, Kajiado North and Loitoktok were united under the new name Kajiado County.
