Kakinomoto no Hitomaro
Kakinomoto no Hitomaro (Japanese柿 本 人 麻 吕/柿 本 人 麿, called Hitomaro; * 660; † ca 720 ) was a Japanese poet. He is one of the 36 immortals of poetry. After the Heian period he was also called Hitomaru (人 丸).
He became known as a master of the long poem ( Choka ). His works dealt primarily of nature experiences and human relationships. In addition, some plants are known to take up the nation-state subjects of his creative life. His works - 19 Long poems and about 75 short poems ( tanka ) - are published in the Man'yōshū.
He was employed as a poet at the court of Emperor Temmu, Jitō and Mommu.
