Kala (Album)
Kala is the second album of the Tamil / English singer Mathangi Arulpragasam ( MIA pseudonym ). The album is named after her mother and was released in August 2007.

Reception & Awards
Kala received almost exclusively very positive reviews. The Metascore the album is 87 %. For example, Rolling Stone and Allmusic gave four and a half out of five. The album also landed at No. 9 of the " 100 best albums of the '00s " of Rolling Stone.
The third single, Paper Planes was used in the Oscar-winning soundtrack for the film Slumdog Millionaire; both in the album version, as well as in DFA remix.
The album appeared on numerous album of the year lists for 2007, including a third place at Pitchfork Media, a fourth place in The Guardian and a seventh place in the NME.
The album received gold status in the U.S. and Silver in the UK. The single Paper Planes received triple platinum in the U.S..
