Kalka Mail

Kalka Mail, today: Howrah - Kalka Express, is one of the oldest long-distance trains in India. About 1743 km it connects Howrah ( Howrah ) at Kolkata with Kalka, the starting point of the narrow gauge railway Kalka - Shimla Railway. The connection was opened in 1866 as the East Indian Railway mail between Delhi and Kolkata, 1891 the route was extended to Kalka. The train is thus one of the oldest still operating trains in the world. At the moment of British India traveled with this train the civilian employees of the Government of the capital as a summer residence in Shimla.

On 10 July 2011, the manned with about 1,000 passengers Howrah - Kalka Express crashed in Uttar Pradesh due to unknown causes. At least 67 deaths and 210 injuries were the result.
