Kamehameha II.

Kamehameha II (* 1797, † July 14, 1824 London; actually Liholiho ) was from 1819 to 1824 ruler of the Kingdom of Hawaii. He is the son of his predecessor Kamehameha I and his first wife Keopuolani. His brother Kauikeaouli became his successor.

After the death of his father in 1819, he ascended the throne, but the real ruler was the last widow of Kamehameha I., Kuhina - Nui Kaahumanu. She led Christianity as a national religion and had therefore forbidden rituals of some Native American, including Hulavorführungen in public. In 1819, Kamehameha II abolished from the Kapu system. 1820 came whalers, traders, and the first missionaries to the country. They also brought with them diseases to which about half of the population died. On a trip to London in 1824 to the British King George IV visit, he and his wife died from measles.
