However, only a stump which launched this year, earthworks for the north-south direction were initially of 5.2 km in length. The extended ready interchange was opened to traffic only on 27 October 1956.

Remodeling 2006-2009

A reconstruction of the cross was completed after four years of construction on August 25, 2009. Since then, the cross is six lanes passable. A particular challenge in this case was the complete demolition and new construction of the A 1 - bridge, which is traveled daily by 90,000 vehicles.

The cross has since lost the classic cloverleaf shape, as the traffic from the A2 from Hannover is conducted via a two-lane semi-direct ramp to the A 1 towards Cologne. The ramp passes under this in a great arc, first the A 1 in the northern part of the cross and to take the A 2 is caught in the western area of the cross on the A1 towards Cologne zoom. In June 2009, the semi-direct ramp was opened to traffic. The previous circular trip in the northwestern sector of the Cross accounted for by the new ramp. The new connection must be driven only with 60 km / h since 2010 partially.

The expansion of Tangentialfahrbahn between the A 1 from A 2 Cologne to Hannover from one track to two tracks was completed in November 2009. Both measures the strong Abbiegeverkehr in the relationship Cologne -Hannover and vice versa is taken into account. The other compounds were single track.

By converting the highway patrol lost its central location in the middle of the motorway junction. It was resettled to the A 1 in Kamen-Zentrum.
