Kanach shame ( Armenian Սուրբ Հովհաննես Մկրտիչ եկեղեցի ) is an Armenian Apostolic Church, which is located in Shushi in Nagorno-Karabakh Republic; it stands on the hills of Ghasantschezoz Cathedral.

Kanach shame means " green church " in Eastern Armenian, this owes to the fact that the domes of the church were painted green at a time. This church is sometimes also mentioned the name of the old church on the same site - Gharabachzoz, in honor of the farmer from Nagorno-Karabakh, which they built.

According to the inscriptions building the church was built in 1818 to replace the former wooden Gharabachzoz Church ( in the lower eastern part of the fortress city existed in the second half of the 18th century ). In the ruins of the former church, the inscription is engraved. The dome of the church and its walled chapel can be seen from a very great distance from. The latter has many architectural innovations.

The church has a diagram of a cross shape. In the course of the placement of side chapels under the altar the rising eastern facade of the church and the connected from the west chapel with a unique interior decoration stands out, thanks to which the monument under the analog architectural constructions was isolated. Above the entrance, crowned with the dome of the chapel is the inscription Babayan Stepanos Howanes. In memory of his late brother Mkrtitsch. 1847 notched.
