Kandyba

Kandyba ( hethit. Hinduwa (?), Lyk. Xākbi, Κάνδυβα Greek, Latin Candyba, Candiba, today türk Çataloluk, colloquially continue Gendibe ) is an ancient town in Lycia, in the southwest of present-day Turkey.

Location

The ancient settlement is located on a hill (790 m asl) on the edge of the central rally Kishen Kasaba level, about 13 km north of Kaş. Today's small village (740 m asl) is located south of the ruins.

Importance

Kandyba belonged in ancient times to the smaller cities of Lycia, but was an independent polis with voting rights in the Lycian Federation and minted its own coins. In late antiquity and the Byzantine period Kandyba was a bishopric.
