Kammon Street

The Kammon Bridge (Japanese关门 桥, Kammon kyō ) is a suspension bridge spanning the Kammon road between Shimonoseki on Honshu and Kyushu in Kitakyushu.

Cross the bridge and proceed six lanes of highway Kammon (关门 自动 车道, Kammon Jidōshadō ) from the junction which connects Shimonoseki starting with the Chugoku highway and junction Moji connects them ending with the Kyushu Expressway. The Kammon highway is part of the highway AH1 of the Asian Highways Project.

The bridge was opened on 14 November 1973 and joined the traffic on 27 March 1984 with the Kyushu Expressway. The 1068 m long bridge has a span of 712 m and is one of the forty longest suspension bridges in the world. The clear height is 61 m.

The 141 m high pylons carry the 26 m wide road carrier to support cables that consist of prefabricated parallel wire cables.
